COMMEMORATING
JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH
Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) is a music festival held every April in Canada and the United States, in honor of jazz as an early American art form.
JAM was created in 2001 by John Edward Hasse, curator of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. It became a national extension of the original Jazz Awareness Month created by the Louisiana Jazz Federation in New Orleans in 1980.
Jazz Appreciation Month was created to be an annual event that would pay tribute to jazz as both a living and as a historic music. Schools, organizations, and governments celebrate JAM with free concerts and educational programs. Its first year was 2001, with funding provided by the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, which continues to support JAM every year. JAM culminates with the international celebration of International Jazz Day on April 30.

CELEBRATING THE
LEGACY OF JOHN COLTRANE
The Trane Tracks Concert ™ is all about celebrating High Point's legendary jazz great, John Coltrane and uniting musicians and jazz professionals from the Triad and across the globe and featuring cultural base and inspirational content and networking opportunities.
In April 2023, ’Trane Tracks Concert: became the brainchild for Torin Hinshaw, a UNCG student and Phyllis Bridges, a notable cultural historian and knowledgeable pillar in the African American community and the city of High Point. They brought forth into to the fold jazz musician and musical enthusiasts, Wally West. Wally is an award-winning and critically acclaimed musician who has embraced a unique and deep-rooted passion for the performance, teaching and advocacy of music. The team of three went on to organize the First Annual Trane Tracks Concert. This collaboration was in perfect timing as Tori was finishing out her graduate degree at UNCG, bringing her vast knowledge of music, public relations and media to the team. It is an extreme honor and privilege to have Wally's expertise in local jazz musicians and as production coordinator.
The Trane Tracks Concert ™ is quickly approaching for Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the historical Washington Terrace Park in High Point, NC with some exciting changes that will add a new dynamic to an event that is already one of High Point’s truly unique cultural experiences.
